Luton Town have announced the appointment of William Lancefield as the club’s new Head of Recruitment.

Lancefield joins the Hatters from Scottish side Hearts of Midlothian, where he held the same position with the side who finished second in last season’s Scottish Premiership.

Before his work with Hearts, Lancefield had previously worked in scouting and analytics roles with Southampton, Norwich City, Tottenham Hotspur and Brighton & Hove Albion.

The arrival of Lancefield is part of a broader reshuffle in the League One club’s recruitment department, with Jay Socik leaving after more than five years as Head of Recruitment Analysis and Alexander Wilkinson moves on after four years as a senior scout. Socik leaves after a spell that saw him heavily involved in the recruitment that helped Luton stabilise in the Championship and then win promotion to the Premier League in 2023.

In their new arrangement, Luton confirmed Lancefield will lead engagement with the rest of the department when he starts working for the club full-time on 19 June. Yousuf Sajjad serves as Player Recruitment Manager, alongside Marc Tracy as Chief Scout, while club icon Mick Harford stays with the Hatters as a Senior Scout alongside his club ambassadorial role.

Town CEO Gary Sweet welcomed the appointment, describing the deal as a great arrangement for the club.

Sweet said, “William’s arrival is a significant coup for Luton Town.

“His experience, knowledge of the game and clear understanding of our needs made him the outstanding candidate for this pivotal role. We’re looking forward to working with him and excited about the impact he can make as we evolve our recruitment structure and processes in preparation for the new season and beyond.”

Lancefield added, “I’m delighted to be joining Luton Town. After I met with the club and learned more about the its potential and ambition, I knew straight away this was one I wanted to be a part of.

“I understand what it takes to build strong, competitive squads, and I’m looking forward to working closely with Jack and the wider staff to recruit players who reflect Luton’s identity and ambition.”
