Boy, 7, dies after being struck by car in Staffordshire

A seven-year-old boy has died after being struck by a car in Staffordshire, police have said.

Officers were called to the scene at 5am on Saturday after the vehicle collided with the child on the A38 at the junction with the A5206, near Lichfield.

A spokesperson for Staffordshire Police said: "Sadly, the child, a boy aged 7, died at the scene.

"His family have been informed, and are being supported by specially-trained officers."

The A38 was closed in both directions, between the A5148 and A5 junctions, for more than 10 hours while officers investigated the incident.

Police are appealing for witnesses, and have asked for anyone with information or dashcam footage to contact them.
