Willen Hospice has today launched Ready for Tomorrow Today – a forward-thinking three-year strategy that sets out how the charity will respond to growing challenges and emerging opportunities across Milton Keynes.
Having provided expert, compassionate care for more than 40 years, Willen Hospice is now preparing for the future in one of the UK’s fastest-growing cities. The new strategy outlines how the Hospice will continue to meet increasing demand for its services, while tackling some of the toughest financial pressures faced by any hospice in the country.
“Ready for Tomorrow Today is not just a strategy – it’s a promise to our community,” said Kate Broadhurst, Chief Executive of Willen Hospice. “We’re taking decisive steps now to secure the future of hospice care in Milton Keynes. That means being financially sustainable, expanding access to care, and ensuring Willen remains an exceptional place to work and volunteer. It’s a bold step forward – and one we’re proud to take with the support of our community, our partners and our people.”

Rising to the challenge
The strategy is built around three key priorities to guide the Hospice’s work through to 2028:
1. High-quality care for all
Willen will continue delivering exceptional care, while removing barriers to ensure fair and equal access across every part of Milton Keynes.
2. A great place to work and volunteer
People are at the heart of Willen’s mission. The strategy prioritises a supportive, inclusive culture where staff and volunteers can thrive.
3. Financial sustainability
To meet increasing demand, the Hospice will boost income from fundraising and retail, explore new revenue opportunities, and campaign for a fairer share of NHS funding.
“This strategy reflects our deep commitment to building a hospice that is resilient, inclusive and ready for the future,” said Rachel Medill, Chair of the Board of Trustees. “We are not only responding to today’s pressures – we’re preparing with care and confidence to meet the needs of tomorrow’s Milton Keynes.”

A call to the community
As part of the launch, Willen Hospice is inviting local people, businesses, donors and decision-makers to support its mission.
“With the incredible backing of our community, we will continue to be there for everyone who needs us – today, tomorrow, and for generations to come,” added Kate Broadhurst.
