Motherhood is an incredible journey, but it can also be isolating and overwhelming at times. That’s where The Mum Club Milton Keynes comes in—a supportive community created to help women connect, share experiences, and feel supported as they navigate life as mums.
We sat down with Kelly Gutzmore, the host of The Mum Club Milton Keynes, to talk about her role, the community she’s building for mums, and what makes The Mum Club so special.
Hi Kelly! Can you start by telling us a bit about yourself and how you got involved with The Mum Club Milton Keynes?
Of course! I’m a mum to a two-year-old, and I became the host for The Mum Club Milton Keynes in March 2024. I organise and promote events for mums in the local community. At our events, I make sure that everyone feels welcomed—especially if they’ve come alone. My main goal is to create a space where mums can enjoy themselves and feel stress-free.
Tell us more about The Mum Club itself. What is it all about?
The Mum Club was founded in 2016 by Lauren Webber and Jessica Lawes. They started it because they saw a gap in the market—there were plenty of baby-focused classes, but nothing that really centred on the mum. The Mum Club puts women first, offering a free membership that gives access to insights, brand discounts, expert articles, and forums to connect with other mums. It’s really about creating a community for women to meet, laugh, learn, and build relationships while navigating motherhood.
Here in Milton Keynes, we organise local events for mums at all stages of their motherhood journey. The aim is to make these events accessible for everyone, whether you’re a new mum or you have older children.
What would you say to a new mum who’s nervous about attending an event?
Don’t be nervous! Honestly, more than half of the mums who attend come alone for the first time. I’m always there to greet them, make introductions, and ensure they feel comfortable. If you’re worried about being late, don’t stress—life with little ones is unpredictable! We usually serve food about 30 minutes after the event starts to give everyone a chance to settle in. There’s no pressure to arrive exactly on time, and if you prefer to come early, that’s totally fine too.
What do you love most about hosting The Mum Club Milton Keynes?
I love the sense of community it builds. Motherhood is such a huge life change, and I’ve had friends who’ve struggled with postnatal depression. It’s a journey that shouldn’t be done alone, but many women don’t have that built-in support system. Our events give mums a chance to relax, laugh, and connect with others in the same boat. For me, looking after babies starts with looking after the mums, and that’s what The Mum Club is all about.
It’s also great that the events are focused on women, but mums can still bring their babies if they’re not comfortable leaving them behind. I really believe it takes a village to raise a child, and The Mum Club creates a space where women can build that village.
Has there been a favourite event or moment for you so far?
One of my favourite moments happened at a brunch last month. I wrote a little message inside each mum’s name card saying, “You’re doing great!”—just a small gesture to remind them that they’re amazing. One mum had a really stressful morning getting out the house, and when she saw the note, she said, “Aw, I needed that!” It was such a sweet moment, and it really reinforced why I love doing this.
What kind of connections or friendships have you seen form through The Mum Club?
I’ve seen some beautiful friendships blossom. One of our mums posted on Facebook that attending The Mum Club Milton Keynes was the first thing she did as a new mum, and now she’s best friends with two other mums she met at one of our events. She mentioned how nice it was to be around other mums who were also breastfeeding, preparing bottles, and going through the same things, all without judgment. She even said it helped her mental health enormously.
That’s wonderful to hear! How can people find out more or join an event?
We’re very active on social media. You can find us on Instagram at @themumclubmiltonkeynes and on Facebook under The Mum Club Milton Keynes. We post all our upcoming events there, and you can book tickets directly through our links.
What upcoming events can mums look forward to?
We have some exciting events lined up! There’s a Brunch at Veeno Bar in The Hub CMK on Thursday, 24th October. We’re also hosting a Wreath Making Evening (Mum’s Night Off) on Tuesday, 26th November. And for Christmas, we’ll have a special Christmas Brunch with a Santa appearance on Thursday, 5th December, from 10 AM to 12 PM.
Oh, and I almost forgot to mention—we offer childcare at all our brunches, so mums can eat and enjoy hands-free if they want to!
