If you’ve wandered through Milton Keynes city centre recently, chances are you’ve spotted them. Familiar, but sharper. Brighter. A little harder to ignore (in a good way).
MyMiltonKeynes BID has officially unveiled a refreshed look for its Tap to Donate machines – a city-wide update designed to catch the eye and spark even more generosity for homelessness prevention across Milton Keynes.
The machines are part of the long-running Real Change Not Loose Change campaign and make giving simple. One tap. £3. No cash needed. Just a quick moment that can make a real difference.
Since launching in 2019, the Tap to Donate initiative has raised an impressive £29,586, directly funding projects that offer emergency support, long-term help and crucial prevention services for people facing homelessness in the city. Not loose change. Real change.
Jill Farnsworth, CEO of MyMiltonKeynes, explained why the refresh mattered now: “This is a project I’ve been really looking forward to completing, as six years on the machines were definitely in need of a refresh! We’ve raised thousands of pounds for homelessness prevention services across Milton Keynes over that time, and we hope the eye-catching new designs will encourage even more people to tap and give.”
Where to find the Tap to Donate machines
You’ll spot the refreshed machines at key locations across the city centre, including:
- Milton Keynes Train Station
- Marks & Spencer (Food Department door)
- Midsummer Place (near Popeyes)
- Midsummer Place (beside Wingstop and Zara)
- Leonardo Hotel window
- centre:mk (outside H Beauty on Midsummer Arcade)
- Xscape (outside Slim Chickens)
Each donation goes straight into a dedicated Homelessness Fund managed by Milton Keynes Community Foundation, ensuring every pound supports charities and not-for-profit organisations delivering life-changing work on the ground.
One of those organisations is UnityMK, which recently received a grant enabling it to continue supporting people experiencing homelessness and rough sleeping in Milton Keynes. The charity currently sees 10 new people every week who need urgent help – physical, mental and emotional – just to begin breaking the cycle.

Lauren Baker, Philanthropy Manager at Milton Keynes Community Foundation, said: “We would like to say thank you to MyMiltonKeynes BID for part funding UnityMK’s vital services through its Homelessness Fund with the Foundation. Because of its generosity, along with donations made through the contactless devices, we are able to provide transformational grants to tackle the key housing issues that sadly persist in Milton Keynes.”
Emma Johnson, CEO of UnityMK, highlighted the growing scale of the challenge: “With 1 in 113 people locally now classed as homeless, the demand for UnityMK’s services continues to rise. We are deeply grateful to MyMiltonKeynes BID and Milton Keynes Community Foundation for their support and to every person who has contributed to the Homelessness Fund. With continued support, together we can end homelessness in our city.”
The message is simple. Next time you’re in the city centre and see one of the refreshed machines, stop for a second. Tap. And know that small action is helping fund essential support for people who need it most.
Look out for the new Tap to Donate machines across Milton Keynes and support homelessness prevention with just one tap.
