Stalemate between Northampton and Huddersfield at Sixfields

Northampton Town picked up a point after a 1-1 draw at home to Huddersfield Town at Sixfields.

Nesta Guinness-Walker had scored an early goal for the Cobblers before Leo Castledine equalised for the visitors from West Yorkshire.

With no winner coming from either side, it meant a point for Kevin Nolan’s side, who finished the season 15th in the League One table. They currently sit 5 points above the relegation zone and 7 off the play-offs.

It was the hosts who made a flying start to proceedings with a goal inside the opening 9 minutes. Guinness-Walker was picked out by Conor McCarthy and the Cobblers full-back placed home a crisp volley to put them in front.

Dion Charles would miss the target with two attempts from decent positions for the West Yorkshire side, before Lee Nicholls in the Huddersfield goal kept out Tom Eaves.

Huddersfield would equalise after 36 minutes. Charles’ cross picked out Castledine, and the Chelsea loanee beat Ross Fitzsimons in the Northampton goal to equalise for the visitor.

Charles would miss the target once more in the latter stage of the half, at the end of a first-half that ended up finely poised.

The single best opportunity of the second half came the way of the Terriers, with Cameron Ashia denied by Fitzsimons in the final stage.

Northampton go again on Saturday, when the Cobblers visit Nene Valley Derby rivals Peterborough United.
