Northampton pick up point from trip to Bolton

Northampton Town picked up a point as they drew 0-0 away at play-off chasers Bolton Wanderers.

A point in Lancashire was the Cobblers’ second 0-0 draw in a row, having played out a goalless draw with Stockport County on New Year’s Day.

Kevin Nolan’s side remain in 19th position, though they are now 2 points clear of the relegation zone after Burton lost at Plymouth.

One of the League One games to survive a cold snap in the UK saw Nolan return to Bolton, where he played 345 times over a decade.

Northampton arrived chasing a first win in 4 games and it was the Cobblers who had the game’s best early opportunity, when Terry Taylor hit the crossbar with a strike from just outside the box.

Bolton did get the ball in the back of the net through Mason Burstow, only for a foul on Cobblers keeper Ross Fitzsimons to be spotted and penalised.

Amario Cozier-Duberry side-footed an effort wide from a decent position for the hosts, while Burstow would later fire off target.

Sam Hoskins and Tom Eaves saw efforts miss the target for the visitors in their attempts to take the points, but the match ultimately saw no goals being registered on the scoreboard.

The match would end up being something of a curious affair, as the two sides created a combined 25 shots, but none found the target.

The Cobblers now have a ten day break before their next assignments, when they welcome Walsall to Sixfields in the EFL Trophy on January 14th before resuming league action when they host Wycombe the following weekend.
