Major disruption on train line after derailment between Bletchley and Milton Keynes

Major disruption has been reported on the railway line via Milton Keynes after a derailment between Bletchley and Milton Keynes Central.

The derailment of a London Northwestern Railway (LNWR) train happened between 12pm and 1pm today (28/06) when rear carriages on a slow-moving service heading from Milton Keynes Central towards Bletchley derailed. No passengers were on the train and no injuries have been reported.

Trains have been cancelled or delayed by up to 90 minutes after the incident, with the position of the derailed train blocking two of the four tracks between Bletchley and Milton Keynes Central.

The incident has created a significant blockage on the busy West Coast Main Line that connects London with destinations such as Milton Keynes, Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool, North Wales and Glasgow.

National Rail Enquiries have reported services have been delayed by up to 90 minutes or cancelled altogether as a result of the problems.

Electrical wire damage between Preston and Lancaster has added to the trouble on the line, with services heading north also disrupted and many trains being cancelled or revised.

A spokesperson from LNWR told the BBC, “We are working closely with Network Rail to resolve the disruption as soon as possible. In the meantime, ticket acceptance is available with East Midlands Railway and Transport for London Overground.”

Operators Avanti West Coast and LNWR have advised passengers can use tickets booked for today for other operators where suitable.

Passengers intending to travel today have been advised to check the status of their intended trains with their operators before travelling

Replacement buses between Bletchley, Milton Keynes, Wolverton and Northampton have also been commissioned.
