Luton Town’s match against Doncaster Rovers has been postponed due to a frozen pitch.
The Hatters had been scheduled to make the trip to South Yorkshire later today (04/01) for a League One contest, but after several days of freezing conditions in the UK, the pitch failed an inspection this morning and the game has been postponed.
The match is one of several games to be postponed in the EFL, with matches in the Championship and League Two also being postponed due to the icy conditions.
In a statement, Doncaster Rovers said, “We can confirm that, despite extensive efforts, that the scheduled clash with Luton Town on January 4 has been postponed due to a partially frozen pitch at the Eco-Power Stadium.
“Throughout the week, the playing surface was double covered with frost sheeting and lighting rigs used to provide the best opportunity for the fixture to take place.
“But fresh overnight subzero temperatures have left parts of the pitch frozen with no chance of thaw ahead of kick-off, leading a match official to determine play would be unsafe during an inspection on Sunday morning.”
Luton Town stated that details about a rescheduled date and ticket arrangements for those who had purchased for today will be announced in due course.
