Luton make it 2 wins from 2 after seeing off Peterborough

Luton Town picked up their second win of the new season with a 2-0 win away at Peterborough United.

Second half goals by Mads Andersen and Jordan Clark did the job for Matt Bloomfield’s Hatters, who followed up their opening day victory against AFC Wimbledon with a first away win of the new campaign.

Luton had given a full debut to new signing Jerry Yates, but the first half proved to be a fairly even affair.

The best opportunities came within close proximity of one another, with the Hatters seeing Christ Makosso fire over from close range at a corner before Peterborough’s Bradley Ihionvien saw a strike from a tight angle repelled by Hatters keeper Josh Keeley.

The visitors opened the scoring on the hour mark, as defender Andersen was picked out by George Saville’s corner and perfectly placed his header beyond the grasp of the Peterborough keeper Nicholas Bilokapic.

The goal was Andersen’s first Luton goal in two years, with his only other strike from the Hatters having come in a Premier League match against West Ham.

After taking the lead, Luton were largely in control of proceedings and they would ultimately be gifted a second by Peterborough in the closing moments.

Bilokapic struggled to control a backpass, and he was closed down by Nahki Wells. The former Bristol City striker duly pinched the ball before laying it off for Clark to finish, making it 2-0 and all-but ending the game as a contest.

Luton’s attention now turns to the Carabao Cup, when they face a trip to Coventry City on Tuesday.
