Northampton Town have announced the deadline day double signing of Kyle McAdam and Ben Hammond from Nottingham Forest.
The two prospects have both been signed by the Cobblers on season-long loan deals from Premier League Forest, and will be at the club for the remainder of the campaign.
McAdam is making his second loan of the season, having spent the first half of the campaign at the Cobblers’ fellow League One side Mansfield Town, where he made 14 appearances. The 21-year-old is regarded as a player that can play on the left flank or in central attacking midfield.
Northampton boss Kevin Nolan told the club’s official website that he saw McAdam as a handy option.
He said, “Kyle has just finished his loan at Mansfield Town and while things may not have gone ideally to plan for him there, like we did with Ethan Wheatley, we have seen some attributes we feel we can help get the best of.
“He has some real quality about him, he has had a taste of League One so he knows what this level is all about and he is very well thought of at Nottingham Forest.
“He can play as a number ten, or anywhere down the left hand side and he has a wonderful left foot.
“We have an excellent relationship with Nottingham Forest and he is another player who we think can come in and help us.”
McAdam’s fellow Forest academy graduate Hammond is a 21-year-old Welsh under-21 international who can play in defence or midfield.
The deal to sign Hammond, which was the second announced on deadline day, means Northampton have signed four new faces in the window, with the two following Elliott Moore and Jake Evans into Sixfields.
Nolan said, “Ben is a player who caught our eye when we have seen him play for Forest on a number of occasions.
“He comes here with a similar profile to Ben Perry last season and he is one we are possibly looking at beyond the next few months. We think he could have a big future in the game, people whose opinion we trust and value agree and rate him very highly.
“He can play in a back three or in central midfield and can perform either role well.
“He has a great attitude, a strong will to win and he is a player we are delighted to welcome to the club.”
