MK City Council opens safety survey to evaluate people's safety concerns in city

Milton Keynes City Council is inviting residents to share their views in this year’s Community Safety Survey.

The City Council encouraged local people to take part in the survey as they highlighted that in previous years, comments from residents have led to real changes.

In a statement, they said feedback from people taking part in the survey included, “helping the city council secure almost £750,000 in external funding to improve street lighting, increase CCTV and make other upgrades that help people feel safer in the city centre.

“Feedback has also led to changes in how anti-social behaviour is handled, for instance the city council brought in a new system to speed up response times and improve support for victims.”

MK City Council said that the work done sits alongside an ongoing partnership with Thames Valley Police, which includes joint enforcement to help reduce violent crime, and action to tackle anti-social behaviour supported by Public Space Protection Orders.

Anyone that wishes to participate can do so on the Milton Keynes City Council website.

Cabinet Member for Community Safety, Cllr Amber McQullian, said, “We have already seen how much of a difference residents can make. The feedback people have shared in previous surveys has helped us secure funding, improve lighting and CCTV, and change the way we tackle problems across the city. Every response helps us understand real day to day experiences, and it directly shapes the action we take. By sharing your views again this year, you can help us do more to make Milton Keynes safer for everyone.”
