MK City Council announce new domestic abuse prevention and victim support strategies

Milton Keynes City Council has prepared new and strengthened plans to tackle domestic abuse and improve support for victims across the city.

The City Council’s new Prevention of Domestic Abuse Strategy and Action Plan for 2026–28 is intended to outline how partners will continue to work together over the next two years to prevent abuse, improve access to services, and provide safe accommodation and more protection for survivors as they navigate the justice system.

MK City Council said that the experiences of local residents affected by domestic abuse were taken into account when developing the strategy and action plan, alongside feedback from professionals from across the partnership.

The strategy has been developed by MK Together, the safeguarding partnership for Milton Keynes, which brings together Milton Keynes City Council, Thames Valley Police, NHS Bedfordshire, Luton and Milton Keynes Integrated Care Board, and other local partners. Progress against actions will be monitored by the Domestic Abuse Strategic Partnership Board.

MK City Council said that they will make a formal decision on 24 February to adopt the new Prevention of Domestic Abuse Strategy and Action Plan.

According to a recent survey from the Office for National Statistics, across England and Wales, approximately one-in-four (25.8%) of people aged 16 years and over have experienced domestic abuse.

“This strategy strengthens our collective response and ensures people can access safe accommodation, specialist help and fair, consistent support when they need it most. We are committed to continuing this work and driving further progress across the city.”
