Luton concede injury time equaliser at home to struggling Burton Albion

Luton Town conceded an equaliser in stoppage time after a 1-1 draw at home with struggling Burton Albion.

Nahki Wells’ early goal had given the Hatters a first half advantage, but the home side couldn’t see the job through, with Fabio Tavares scoring a 92nd minute equaliser to take a point for a Burton side currently in the League One relegation zone.

The draw stopped Luton from making it 3 straight home wins, with Jack Wilshere’s side falling to 10th place in the League One table and now sitting 6 points off the playoffs.

After a miserable pair of defeats at Cardiff and Wigan, Luton were seeking home comforts against a Brewers side fighting to stay up in the third tier.

A 13th minute goal put the Hatters in front. Joe Johnson’s through pass teed up Wells to charge beyond the Burton backline, and the striker duly beat Burton keeper Brad Collins.

Few chances were created by the two sides in the encounter, though Luton came close just before the hour mark when Jordan Clark’s shot just bounced wide.

With time running out, Burton began to cause Luton more bother, with Kyran Lofthouse heading narrowly wide and Kain Adom firing into the side-netting.

An equaliser duly came the Brewers’ way in the second minute of stoppage time. Luton failed to fully clear a Burton corner, and Udoka Godwin-Malife crossed for Tavares to head in at the back post, swiping a point for Gary Bowyer’s side as Luton failed to see the job through.

Luton face a quick return to the playing field, as they host Plymouth in the EFL Trophy on Tuesday. Their next league match sees them visit League One’s bottom side Port Vale next weekend.
