Luton Town suffered a third consecutive away defeat after they were beaten 1-0 by Plymouth Argyle.
One goal won the contest at Home Park, as Brendan Galloway scored a winning goal in first half stoppage time.
The result means Luton stay in 7th place in League One and they are now 3 points behind Huddersfield Town in the final play-off position, thanks to a combination of their loss and victory for the Terriers, ahead of Luton’s away match at Huddersfield on Tuesday.
Having taken a point from 2-0 down against Lincoln City in their last outing, Luton had been looking for rewards against a Plymouth side chasing a third straight win.
The Hatters gave a debut to new signing Kasey Palmer in their attempts to take the points, but they would make a slow start as they struggled to create first half opportunities.
Alex Mitchell saw an initial strike go wide from close range before Matty Sorinola saw a strike cleared off the line by Nigel Lonwijk.
Ronan Curtis would then hit the crossbar for Argyle before Malachi Boateng headed wide.
An opener would duly come for Plymouth in the third minute of first half stoppage time. Lorent Tolaj’s header hit the bar from a corner, but one-time Luton man Galloway bundled the ball past Josh Keeley to put the home side in front.
Home keeper Conor Hazard made a good stop to deny Palmer just after the restart, before former Luton attacker Bim Pepple fired wide when one-on-one with Keeley.
Luton soon had a more productive period, with Liam Walsh seeing a 20-yard drive just ripple wide before Nahki Wells beat Hazard only for Mitchell to make a covering block on the line.
Keeley made a big stop to deny Tolaj in second half stoppage time, before Jordan Clark missed a late effort.
But that was it for the away side’s attempts to recover a point as they slid to a defeat in Devon, ahead of that big midweek trip to West Yorkshire.
