City Council sets out roadmap towards a greener, cleaner and fairer city

Milton Keynes City Council has updated its Sustainability Strategy to focus on practical steps that cut energy use, reduce household bills, and deliver long‑term benefits for local people.

The city council refreshed the strategy following a public consultation, where more than 80% of local people, businesses and community groups said the existing plan needed updating. The revised strategy responds directly to that feedback and sets out clear actions to help households save money, improve neighbourhoods and support the long‑term health and resilience of the city.

The refreshed strategy is built around five key areas:

• Economy – expanding local skills and helping local businesses grow sustainably, creating jobs
• Energy – improving the energy efficiency of buildings to lower bills and create warmer, healthier homes
• Emissions – improving bus services, and making sure local people have options for walking and cycling routes, and cleaner vehicles
• Environment – protecting and enhancing the city’s much‑loved parks, lakes and wildlife habitats
• Engagement – strengthening partnerships with communities, local groups, businesses and organisations to become more effective
