Radio Station Rules

You have agreed to these rules as part of your onboarding process and by continuing to be involved with the organisation.  

If there is anything you do not agree with, please discuss your concerns with your line manager.

Failure to comply with any station policies or procedures may result in forfeiting broadcasting privileges and being suspended/banned from the station premises. 

  1. I will abide by the radio station's Code of Practice and will not intentionally breach any part of the Ofcom Broadcasting Code or broadcasting legislation.
  2. By signing this document, I am confirming that I have received training, read, and understood the Ofcom Broadcasting Code and will comply.
  3. I will not present anything that could in any way be construed as being discriminatory (e.g. racist, sexist or homophobic) in its content or delivery, and avoid material that consciously seeks to undermine community harmony, particularly in the areas of race, gender, sexual orientation or other protected characteristics.
  4. I will be respectful, observe good manners and non-threatening language with other volunteers, guests and others using the building at all times.  Bullying and harassment will not be tolerated. Anyone found to be guilty of bullying and harassment will be suspended from all duties and banned from entering the station premises.
  5. I will not criticise, abuse, or offend other presenters, programmes, station volunteers or station management on or off air.
  6. I will not criticise, abuse, or offend a particular individual or group on air.
  7. I will not use obscene or offensive language whilst on air, within the building premises or whilst at home recording my show (including when I believe the microphones are not recording or are switched off).  The radio station acknowledges there are songs with lyrics that may be considered offensive by some sections of the community. I will avoid using this type of programme content and will check with management if unsure.
  8. I understand and agree that should myself or any of my guests swear whilst on air which results in an Ofcom fine, I am liable to pay the fine (unless my guests have signed a Broadcasting Performance Agreement).
  9. I understand and agree that should any music I’ve added to my show, or from other unauthorised categories, contain profanity which results in an Ofcom fine, I am liable to pay the fine.
  10. I understand and agree that should any equipment get damaged by myself or any of my guests not following the rules (e.g. by bringing a drink into the studio) I will be liable to pay for the replacement.
  11. I will not take food or drink into any of the studios.
  12. I will consider other presenters at the station and will ensure I leave the studio and office tidy for the next presenter, normalise the desk and leave the studio free from rubbish and show left-overs.
  13. I will not under any circumstances be under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or other intoxicants when on air.
  14. I will not consume or bring illicit drugs onto the premises and I understand that the drug/alcohol free rule will be enforced in the studios at all times.
  15. I will not smoke or vape within the studio or office. I understand that the entire building including the doorway is a smoke-free environment.
  16. I will ensure that I am on the premises at least 10 minutes prior to the start of my programme and in the studio prior to the start of my show. If I require any studio preparation I will consult with the current presenter and only do so with their approval.
  17. I will make a commitment to complete the allocated shift for the entire length of the programme. If for any reason, I am unable to complete my shift I will contact the programme controller or deputy programme controller.
  18. I will inform the management team if I am unable to attend my scheduled shift at the earliest possible time, preferably one week in advance for a replacement to be organised. If I can organise my own replacement this must be approved by the programme controller or deputy programme controller.
  19. I will inform the programme controller or deputy programme controller immediately of any issues in my programme or incidents that may lead to a complaint and ensure an apology is broadcast as soon as possible.
  20. I will discuss all complaints, problems, and disagreements rationally and calmly with the management team. All complaints/issues raised will be treated seriously and respectfully by the management team/Board and complaints/issues put in writing need to be addressed to the programme controller or deputy programme controller. These will be seriously and respectfully discussed and investigated by the management team, and the complainant will receive a comprehensive written response.
  21. On arrival at the radio station premises for my shift, I will read all notices placed on the noticeboard (if applicable).
  22. I will undertake any additional training requested by the management team within a 3-month period.
  23. I agree to take my broadcasting privilege seriously and will, to the best of my ability, do my utmost to prepare and present my program to the highest possible standard.
  24. I will play all scheduled adverts and promos during my programme.
  25. I will not read community announcements unless they are authorised and confirmed by the programme controller or deputy programme controller.
  26. I will not make unauthorised sponsorship announcements, change or embellish sponsorship announcements or make additional sponsorship or promotional agreements (or enter negotiations).
  27. I will not conduct any competitions/giveaways or make any agreements with other parties involving competitions/giveaways without the authorisation of the management team. Records of all giveaways are to be kept indicating the date, the prize, the winner and who provided the prize.
  28. I will not contact press offices on behalf of the radio station without speaking to the programme controller or deputy programme controller first.
  29. I will notify and receive approval from the programme controller or deputy programme controller for any guests on my program. I will take responsibility for ensuring they sign in and comply with all station policies and procedures.
  30. I will not engage any co-host for my program without notifying and receiving approval from the programme controller or deputy programme controller
  31. I will only use the station’s computers and internet access for information & reference for my show. Any other use requires written approval from the management team, further information can be found in the IT Acceptable Use Policy.
  32. I have read and understood the CCTV policy and Privacy Notice/Data Protection Policy and confirm that it is acceptable for Revolution Radio to hold information about me, further details can be found in our CCTV Policy & Privacy Notice/Data Protection policy.
  33. I acknowledge that my program, or any program broadcast by the radio station, is the property of the radio station, such programs may only be distributed or broadcast to other outlets with the permission of the programme controller or deputy programme controller.
  34. I acknowledge that I am responsible to ensure that any content broadcast in my show does not breach any copyright laws. I also acknowledge that I must vet any audio for offensive language before broadcasting.
  35. I understand that any breach of this agreement may result in a verbal warning at first instance, a written warning in the second and a third breach may result in suspension of my broadcasting privilege. Serious breaches may result in immediate suspension of my broadcasting privilege and may also result in my being banned from the building. I agree to return any property including keys to any member of the management team on demand.  If you wish for a review of a decision it should be put in writing addressed to the Board of Directors. These will be seriously and respectfully discussed and investigated by the management team, and the complainant will receive a written response.
