St Marks Meals

St Mark’s Meals is a community-driven charity based in Milton Keynes, dedicated to combating child hunger by providing meal kits to children and families in need. Established in 2019 by St Mark’s Church, the initiative was born out of a desire to address the alarming number of children arriving at school hungry, often without having eaten since the previous day's school lunch.

How It Works

The charity distributes meal kit boxes to over 100 schools, children's centres, and community hubs across Milton Keynes. These boxes contain all the ingredients needed to prepare a nutritious, child-friendly meal, along with a recipe card and engaging activities for children. The meals are designed to be simple to prepare, catering to various dietary needs, including vegetarian, gluten-free, and options that require minimal cooking facilities.

The system operates on a trust-based model, allowing school staff and community workers to distribute the boxes to children and families in need, ensuring that no child goes to bed hungry.

Impact and Reach

Since its inception, St Mark’s Meals has made a significant impact in the community. In the past year alone, the charity has provided over 6,000 meal boxes, equating to approximately 24,000 meals for children and their families. The initiative has expanded its reach through the "Meals Network," offering resources and guidance to other communities across the UK interested in replicating the model.
